FTR, works here in bog standard bash running in aterm.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ mkdir ss
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ touch ss/uuu
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cat ss/*u <tab>
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cat ss/uuu 

no need for the trailing *
