I've had exactly the same problem. After recent upgrade TLS stopped
working, could not figure why until I've determined that the problem was
with libssl0.9.8c-4.

I've solved it by force-removing it and installing libsl0.9.8e-4 from
unstable. Should a bug report be filled against the current version in
testing?
