It is a realy good question! > Is there any problems running clients on Sid, but having your servers > running stable? An example which springs to mind would be postgreSQL > where the Sarge version is 7.x and Sid's client is > postgresql-client-8.1. It depends, but it can be like here @me. Since I need functions of partitioning of tables I need PostgreSQL 8.2! But the upgrade was realy cool! -- Not a singel problem with the upgrade from 7.4 from Sarge to 8.2. But my own Workstations and my Customers running Clients based on 7.4 Which gaved us the hell! I had to build and install backports on ALL Sarge machines! > I am guessing that you can't use the postgresql-client-8.1, i.e. psql, > but would have to use ODBC or something similar. psql 8.1 will wok with a PostgreSQL 7.4 but not contraire. > Do you have to worry about which versions of software your users are > installing to access your servers, or, do you control all of that.
