As even its advocates have noted, no matter how much better a micro-kernel system looks in teory, in practice it is a royal bitch to debug. On top of everything else, there are message-order issues which just do not occur in a monolithic kernel. Minix gets away with it by being utterly simple, as a college CS course experiment is good to be.
