yeah, happens to me with gdm-2.14, but, does CTRL + ALT + F1 works ? I mean to go to the first tty/console? if it works from GDM to the terminal then the keyboard in X it´s working, I suggest you that start a session from the command line with the startx command and if this way don´t work do a 'Xorg -configure and the CLI and follow the steps suggested, good luck.
