Hello,

I have posted a similar question to the maiming list. I do it now again
because I think I was not clear enough.

First I installed debian 4.0r3 amd64 on my desktop and X works.
Then I installed debian on my laptop Acer Aspire 9920. But X doesn't
start here. When viewing the X server output I see 2 errors.

Error : no devices detected.
X server fatal error: no screens found.

I guess there is nothing I can do: this must be a bug of the installation.

Any help welcome
Jan

Well, what's the graphic card in the laptop?
If you dont know, first run: update-pciids, then give us the output of: lspci
Thierry

I wrote down what lspci said about the graphics card:

"VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation GeForce 8600M GT (rev a1)"

I find this strange since in /etc/X11/xorg.conf the graphics card is called a default nVidia graphics card.
