Maybe you didn't think Microsoft was playing nice, but when they were the underdog against IBM, it obtained a similar mindshare as Apple is now being an underdog to Microsoft. Of course, with hindsight of all the nasty practices that Microsoft did from the beginning it's a different story, but back then very few people were aware of those practices. - Jordi G.
