Thanks for those links; it seems I'm not alone in despising th new behavior! It appears that, in release 3.1, there will be an option, browser.urlbar.restrict.history, which can be set to "" (i.e. nothing) in about:config, which will cure the problem. In testing, we seem to have 3.01, so I guess I'll have to wait a bit. Meanwhile, the "Hide Unvisited" extension does part of the job.
