Like Ron said, gparted is the correct tool to use if there is dada you want to keep. I'd suggest that at least some of your data is toast from playing with fdisk. If you want to delete and recreate the partitions (then filesystems later) using fdisk it will work. I think what you are doing isn't working because possibly some inodes exist beyond the new partition boundary and thengs are getting confused.
