(Debian Squeeze 64-bit) I had a weird problem with Network Manager whereby it somehow didn't recognize that I was connected. The effect of that problem, for me, was that Epiphany and Liferea (though, curiously, not Evolution) were always starting in offline mode, which got old very quickly. I found out that Epiphany can be made to bypass network manager by unchecking the "managed network" key in the GConf configuration editor (/apps/epiphany/general/managed_network), but then I realized I don't actually need Network Manager at all, since I'm only using a basic DHCP/ADSL setup and no wireless connection. So I removed it. Problems solved, even though I don't know why Network Manager was acting up in the first place. A little searching did reveal that lots of people have the same problem with Network Manager (as well as other problems), especially amongst Ubuntu users. I never had any issue with it in Lenny or prior, so I just left it alone. But, actually, I never have really needed it. Anyway, the point is, perhaps Evolution can be configured to bypass Network Manager like Epiphany can be. -- Michael M. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
