Google it or search the archives for the past month. This has been discussed here at length recently. Search your dmesg output for something like: eth0: unable to apply firmware patch If you see that you're a victim of the firmware blob issue. Basically, Debian feels the Realtek firmware isn't "free" so does not distribute it with Debian kernels/drivers, which bricks the Realtek LAN chips. I've said for years that Realtek ethernet chips are junk and to stay away from them. This latest FW blob fiasco is but one more reason added to the long list. If your time is worth more than ~$30 USD, buy an Intel PCI/PCIe NIC and be done with it.
