The kernel is extra special. But for normal packages you can install
all of the build dependencies with

  $ sudo apt-get build-dep $SOMEPACKAGENAME

Such as:

  $ sudo apt-get build-dep gzip

Use apt-cache search for it.

  $ apt-cache search abc
