Did you read http://wiki.debian.org/SoundFAQ ? Maybe there is any tip
usefull (or should be added one about ISA devices)

Google hints http://www.linux.ie/newusers/beginners-linux-guide/awe-setup.php,
but I don't have experience with ISA sound cards
