Do you have the 'pcspkr' module loaded? lsmod | grep pcspkr If not then load it. modprobe pcspkr Is there a speaker attached to the motherboard hardware? The terminal beep is one of those polarizing features. People either love it or hate it. And so there isn't a right answer for having it enable or disabled by default. If you are like me then you add that as a 'blacklist pcspkr' so that it can't be loaded to disable the beep. :-) Bob
