No, Ron, that isn't correct. It is based on OOo3.3, but with some additions, including the reading of docx. The version of Open Office packaged in Lenny, 2.4.1, also reads docx - but because it isn't in fact OpenOffice.org, but Oxygen Office. The mainstream OOo 2.4.1 cannot read docx. Backports shouldn't be needed in order to read docx, so htere must have been something wrong from the beginning, since the OP says that she had to get the version from backports, and then add an extension, in order to read docx.
