I've succeeded installing patch-2.4.22-ac4 onto vanilla kernel-source 2.4.22 and setting Pentium-M speedstep up (Acer TM290).
You can find both kernel-source and ac4 patch at www.linuxhq.com. After compiling the new kernel you have to download and install cpufreqd daemon. And if you want the cpu to be always at the low speed unless cpu power is needed download and install cpudyn (available through apt-get) ;) - -- Joan Tur.
