In case you're not using one already, it sounds like you could profit greatly from placing your modem in the focal point of a satellite dish or similar. (Or even just slightly adapting http://freeantennas.com/projects/Ez-10/ . Or just search for '3g dish' or '3g antenna'.) Christian. PS.
