Dunno how but there is a copy of the original MBR after the installation which I find it to be a very good approach. Letting users to be in charge of making a copy of the MBR can be a bit overwhelming, given that most of them do not even know what a MBR or a bootloader is... so if the installer does it automatically and something wrong happens, the user can restore the original MBR without a glitch. Post-recovery options and/or dropping bootloader into a partition only makes sense for someone in the know, but I imagine a Joe user here, with a new notebook on his hands and windows on it, wanting to test Debian (or another distribution) with no previos knowledge of linux and not advanced skills.
