'^' then '1' is the 'deadkeys'¹ method.

If the keyboard is not configured to use 'deadkeys" you can try the
'compose'² method: 'AltGr' then '^' then '1'.

'AltGr' is the 'compose' key. It is defined somewhere...

See /usr/share/X11/locale/your_locale/Compose for a complete list of
'compose' sequences.
