Edison started the research into meters and AC, but I can't remember who joined in/followed on. But the word meter came from a citizen of the USA, and the word came from the States. I was not claiming, and do not believe, that electricity was discovered in the States. But it was commercialised there. (Non-commercialised electricity doesn't need a meter, however it is spelt!)
