Two GUI apps I have found useful in troubleshooting audio are:
gstreamer-properties
gnome-volume-control.pulse
I just tried adjusting some settings though both, testing after each
change, yet I can still hear no sound through the laptop speakers.
Besides that, find your audio devices with 'aplay -l' and/or 'aplay -L',
then try playing to all of those devices like this:
aplay -Dhw1,0 somefile.wav
aplay -l only lists one playback device, so I'm not sure what else I
could attempt to play sound with.
Note that aplay is picky about file formats. If I recall, flac files
won't play. I use wav files and have generally been successful.
I used a .wav file, found at /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Noise.wav yet I hear
no noise, with any of the .wav files found in /usr/share/sounds/alsa/
Thanks Rob.
Anyone have any other suggestions?
