No, that's not possible. What GIMP edits is just the converted bitmap
file, not the original contents of the .eps file.

That's a bit like saying that a sound software can edit a .eps file.
Of course, one can open the file as a raw sound, edit it, and save
it back. But that doesn't make sense.

Before giving bad advice to users, you should learn the difference
between vector graphics and bitmap.
