My "xorg.conf" settings for nvidia are as simply as telling xorg what
driver to load, no more no less:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Configured Video Device"
Driver "nvidia"

Interesting. My xorg.conf had more things, "since time immemorial":
1. Option "AIGLX" "on" in ServerFlags.
2. Option "IgnoreABI" "true" also in ServerFlags.
3. Screen section w. modes.
Turns out none of those are necessary. Thanks! :-)
