I got that. 1.95 is pre-Lenny. GRUB will have had one or two changes
made to it in the intervening time.

Location is not likely to be the issue. Getting the kernel to boot is.

You obviously haven't tried the GRUB stanza I gave you with an i386 iso,
otherwise your view might have been more nuanced.
