Yes, "unfortunately" Ubuntu Studio is related to Ubuntu, IOW, there are official meta packages for Ubuntu, that make a regular Ubuntu an Ubuntu Studio. Since Ubuntu Studio is official related to Ubuntu, it ships with some drawbacks, regarding to this thread it might be an advantage, that is really Ubuntu.
