And also from the same manufacturer? I'm looking here for any physical difference (or even the hard disk firmware) that could have done the uuid was altered for the resulting copy. And what are the other available tools for getting the UUID telling you? Are all of them displaying a consistent result? Such us, for example, "ls -la /dev/disk/by-uuid" or the above mentioned "tune2fs". Anyway, thinking out loud, what can make dd to produce different uuid?
