It's "/usr/sbin/update-initramfs". Do you have "/usr" mounted? What choices did you make for rescue mode? AFAIR, there are two screens where you have to make the right choice. There's a screen to choose a root filesystem. Did you choose a right one? There's a screen to execute a shell. Did you choose to execute a shell within the root filesystem that you chose above? If you make the right choices, you'll be chrooted into your install a "/".
