JFTR, aside from anything else you have to do, regarding
<ctrl>-<alt>-<del>, check your /etc/inittab

e.g.
less /etc/inittab
[...]
# What to do when CTRL-ALT-DEL is pressed.
ca:12345:ctrlaltdel:/sbin/shutdown -t1 -a -r now
[...]

I don't run a DE, so don't know if the DE "overrides?" these settings.
