This is what I noticed as well. And I see that mtpfs has been removed from stable and testing. It is in Sid, however, so a better working version may be coming. I found another way that works well though. Provided that the device has a WiFi connection to the same router your PC is connected to (wired or via WiFi), you can use the Software Data Cable app in Android to access your device via FTP.
