I've used a couple of generic cards off eb$y without problem - the only "problem" I've had is the power limitations when (wanting to) run more than one external 2.5" HDD - the power rating on my lenovo laptop is ultimately not per-usb-port, but an overall power max for all three ports AND the Express Card slot. Dunno anything about EviAppl hardware. The other thing with generic is, if it don't work, I don't worry much about the $8 it cost (can't remember exact prices sorry, been a while).
