Nevertheless, I also believe that I have problems with the bootloader.

When you boot the installation DVD, there is an option 'rescue
mode' in the initial menu that comes up. Look under 'advanced options'.

Hi Filip,

I did not think of using the installation CD.

Anyway, due to pressing timelines, I had to get a working computer at the moment so I took out the new drive, and put the old one again for the time being.

Thank you for your advice I will follow it up when I have time to try again the replacement.

Follow through the steps, and you will get a menu where you have
two options that should help you:

-  reinstall the bootloader
- 'start a shell in the installer environment'. This will set up the
  chroot environment for you.
