Thanks for all the ideas, everybody.  I'll work through them.  It looks as 
htough something ought to work.

It isn't that the sites won't talk to me.  They won't let me talk to them.  
Really, I need to get another browser.  I don't overall like Iceweasel.

I used to use Konqueror as my main browser, and much prefer it.  But it is 
suffering from having a much smaller support base.
