After reading them in the list archives, I think I will go for:
- no dedicated partition for /boot;
- no swap;
- one big partition under LVM with:
- 2 Lv's for / and /home, maybe a third one for /var;
- /tmp on tmpfs.

I ran my machines without swap for a while, and found that applications crashed when the system was low on memory and I did something that required memory (start a program, open a file, etc.). So, a swap partition is necessary; 512 MB seems to work for my needs.
