That's not really true.

It was the first to actively support an alternate init system in the
packages.

Huge difference, particularly when, if it didn't support replacing systemd
with sysvinit, it would actively interfere with all alternate inits.

Lots of things have been forgotten in this discussion. Lots of history
misinterpreted, as well.
