Given that I could not get a GRUB menu, due to what was done to the system, I believe that, from the web site at the URL that you provided, the web page at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCdRecovery would be more useful. However, unfortunately, that web page is out of dat, and no support appears to be provided on that web site, for recovery, for a GRUB 2 installation.
