There's AirDroid if you have wifi (you don't have to sign up for one of their accounts, by the way) and you can download apps from the google play store. You open AirDroid, which you gives you the phone's ip address. On a local lan that might look like http://192.168.0.11:8888. Stick that into your favorite browser, then browse the contents of your Samsung (allows file transfer + management). Works for me. Has the merit of simplicity if all else fails.
