On my system, if I hibernate with everything on (including the monitor) all
works fine.

Instead, if I hibernate with the monitor off (but the system is not
suspended), I got the problem I described in my original post. When I wake up
the system, I see the boot messages, everything seems fine, but at the end of
the resume phase the monitor switches off and I have no way to turn it on,
apart from a reboot.
