You don't need those up/down parts, you can add additional blocks for
eth0:

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static
        address 142.54.186.2
        netmask 255.255.255.248
        gateway 142.54.186.1
        dns-nameservers 192.187.107.16 69.30.209.16

iface eth0 inet static
        address 142.54.186.3
        netmask 255.255.255.248

iface eth0 inet static
        address 142.54.186.4
        netmask 255.255.255.248
[...]
