I am currently using sid so there is no problem for me using e.g. gcc 7.3 etc..... And installing new kernels in gentoo that I run is easy. What interests me more here are the options for a new user. Greg's latest post suggests the new gcc 4.9 only works in oldstable ie jessie not stretch. So perhaps I have to revise my thinking on this once again.....
