You look at the log which is /var/log/XFree86.0.log or send that file
to the list so that we can see where your problem arises.

If you want to read the log yourself do:

less /var/log/XFree86.0.log (you may need to install "less" using dselect
or apt-get install less) - for more info look at man "package name"

You are looking for lines that have (EE) on the left.  Once you've
identified the problem you can then do:

dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86 to change the offending setting.
