One approach would be to get a mail account strictly for this purpose, and set up a complete Thunderbird mail system using that account.
This works as I hoped it would. It took all of two minutes to set up a new mail account on a domain hosted by hostgator.com, and Thunderbird auto-configured immediately upon being given the mail address and password. In neomutt, "b" simply moves to the next message, so I must type ":exec bounce-message", but this for me is a good solution. RLH
