You can download only parts of libreoffice that you need, e.g.
apt install libreoffice-writer libreoffice-calc
Also, you can use --no-install-recommends option:
apt-get --no-install-recommends install libreoffice-writer libreoffice-calc

I added an alias to my .profile so that --no-install-recommends is
always set:
