In order to use the Modesetting DIX driver with GeForce 8200M G [MCP79] it should be entirely sufficient as follows: 1-eradicate/purge/uninstall/delete all traces of NVidia's proprietary drivers 2-purge xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 3-reboot Purging xserver-xorg-video-nouveau is not necessary, just simpler. It may be necessary to configure specially in /etc/X11/ to not use the Nouveau DDX if it is installed. Note that #2 above may involve reinstalling one or more libraries required for utilizing FOSS drivers with any model GeForce.
