I think the others have mostly covered this but: Do the update to Buster - take it as slow as you need to. Bring it bang up to date. For the Buster to Bullseye - READ RELEASE NOTES :) Use apt. Change sources list. https://wiki.debian.org/SourcesList apt update apt upgrade [That will upgrade any services / packages that can be upgraded in place without compromising anything else.] apt full-upgrade [Which will do the final upgrade and sort otu the warning messages about distribution has changed etc.] Good luck, should be relatively straightforward.
