You could also edit the /etc/X11/Xsession file yourself (knowing that your changes will be "lost" when the package is updated, which in this case should be acceptable, maybe even desirable). Or... as a super dirty hack that may *not* work for all cases, you might try making /usr/local/bin/tempfile a symlink to /bin/mktemp. Make a note to yourself to remove the symlink later when the dust settles, or if you run across someone who used tempfile(1) with options that don't match those of mktemp(1).
