That's right. But mailing lists have conventions that have been worked
out over decades to please lots of users. When someone violates those 
conventions
unwittingly, someone else will tell them about that.

For folks who persist in violating those conventions, fewer people
will respond, and in particular, people with more experience will be
under-represented in those responses.
