I have an IBM Model M from 1990 directly connected to PS/2. I have also used it with various USB controllers and those failed many times. IIRC the Model M has more power consumption. Can you try both the USB controller and the PS/2 port of the motherboard with another PS/2 kb? > I do have a USB keyboard I can use to do some testing.
