That problem is simple to resolve. I have encrypted /home partitions on all my systems, but the root filesystem has a /home/primaryUser containing the /etc/skel/* files, in case I should login before remembering to unock/mount the real /home. (The uncoloured default prompt makes the mistake obvious.) What struck me as odd about your narrative was that you place a configuration file under /mc rather than in the company of your dotfiles under /home. Cheers, David.
