Of course something changed: it's Sid. It will probably be straightened out before it hits stable. Do you need this firmware? If so, do you need it at boot time? There are kernel build options. Building it as a module and making sure that initrd doesn't include it is pretty normal for a number of kernel modules. -dsr-
