I have asked about a Linux-capable label printer years ago, and never
was able to find a suitable one.
Now I see more providing drivers for CUPS so there is hope.
My ideal requirements:
1. small footprint
2. network use (pefer wired)
3. no propriatary consumables
4. usable for address mailing labels
5. reasonable price
6. scriptable
Thanks for your help.

I am using two types of label printer on Linux. A thermal label printer
labelled Gprinter is a brand of thermal printers manufactured by Zhuhai
Howbest Label Printer Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Gainscha group

It prints thermal labels up to around 100mm wide and any length. My
model is GP-3124 and USB but I am sure you can get ethernet versions now
I wrote my own cups driver for it, but I think there are now good
drivers from others for it.
I also use am 80 mm thermal receipt printer with ethernet connection
that I drive direct with python code from my SQLLite database and don't
use cups
Both printers are very cheap and available on ali-express.
As far as scriptable labels is concerned, you just set up print jobs in
cups and they get sent and printed. You script the jobs, not the printer
control instructions.
